As part of our continued growth, Botanix has invested in a new high-throughput, two-stage molecular distillation plant. The new equipment is to be used for the processing and manufacture of advanced hop products, using hop extracts obtained from liquid carbon dioxide extraction as the feedstock. The plant can process up to 25 kg of resin per hour, and the two-stage design means that de-watering of the resin is not required prior to use. Complete computer control allows for easy and rapid adjustment of distillation parameters. The molecular distillation plant is housed in a purpose-built clean room.

Molecular distillation is a separation technique in which a substance can be split into volatile and non-volatile fractions by distilling under a high vacuum. It is thus a perfect complement for our carbon dioxide extraction capability. Extraction with carbon dioxide means that the product is not contaminated with organic solvent residues, and further processing of the extracts by molecular distillation only employs high vacuum and moderate heat. Botanix also have further molecular distillation capability: two laboratory-scale instruments, and a larger scale-up plant available for hop and non-hop products.

Botanix Limited is registered in England, No. 4079942. Registered office: Hop Pocket Lane, Paddock Wood, Kent, TN12 6DQ, UK.
