HOP OIL EMULSION
Purpose For convenient and consistent provision of hop aroma to beer post fermentation.
Composition
Emulsion made from Molecular Distilled Hop Oil: Contains the essential oil of hop and a small amount of hop resin in aqueous emulsion with food grade emulsifiers. The oil content is standardised to 2,500 ppm (0.25%) by volume.
The emulsions convey the characteristic aroma and flavour of the hops from which they are prepared. For further information on the characteristics of individual hop varieties, please see the Hop Variety Data Sheets on the Barth Haas Group Website: Datasheet.
Emulsion made from Steam Distilled Hop Oil: Contains the essential oil of hop in aqueous emulsion with food grade emulsifiers. The oil content is standardised either to 1,000 ppm (0.1%) or to 10,000 ppm (1.0%) by volume and the emulsion is suitable for use in light-stable beers.
Use An amount of emulsion corresponding to 1 or 2 ppm oil is preferably metered into the beer stream before or after conditioning but before final filtration. Alternatively, the emulsion may be added directly to the cask during filling and before the addition of finings.
Packaging Normally available from Botanix in sterile 22.5, 40 or 50 litre stainless steel kegs or 25 litre polydrums. Smaller packages are available.
Storage Store in unopened containers. For prolonged storage (up to 6 months) we recommend cold storage at 3o – 6o C. Partly used containers should not be stored owing to the risk that sterility may be compromised.
