ISOHOP®
Purpose Post-fermentation control of beer bitterness.
Composition Potassium salt of iso-alpha-acids in aqueous alkaline solution, buffered with potassium carbonate. Isohop® contains 20% or 30% w/v iso-alpha-acids.
Use Isohop® can be used to adjust the bitterness of an under-bittered beer or to provide up to about 50% of the required bitterness. In this case it must be borne in mind that the utilisation of alpha-acids in the kettle increases as the amount present is reduced. For further details and a usage calculation for bitterness adjustment, please see the Isohop® document on the Barth Haas Group Website: Technical Specification.
Isohop® may be added, without prior dilution, directly to beer. The addition can be made either before or after conditioning but before the final filtration and, preferably, by metered injection into the beer stream during transfer. Local high concentrations of iso-alpha-acids should be avoided and the addition point should be well separated from that of any other additives.
Packaging Normally available from Botanix in high density polythene containers of 20 or 25 litres.
Storage Preferably stored in full, closed containers at 2 - 8°C. Prolonged storage above 25°C is likely to cause deterioration.
